THE DIGITIZATION OF THE CEMETERIES OF THE ASHKENAZI COMMUNITIES IN
THE NETHERLANDS.
A Joint Project of the NIK(het Nederlands Israelisch Kerkgenootschap)
and Akevoth.
The digitization of the Dutch Jewish cemeteries is a long-term project
that will be executed in two phases:-
A.-Full digitization of existing and decipherable gravestones.(phase 1)
B.-Full mapping of the cemeteries in addition to the above database,
when completed (phase 2).
A.-Digitization of existing and decipherable gravestones.
1.-Each gravestone, photographed in color, will be accompanied by the
following text:-
(a).-Translation of the Hebrew text of the stone.
(b).-Remarks, compiled of additional useful information, specifications
of inconsistencies or irregularities on the stone itself or compared
with other sources, references to Tenach(biblical) sources used for the
text of the stone,etc.
(d).-References to where the deceased person can be found in the
database of the Center and/or outside sources.
[This section is meant to be a dynamic one, to be updated from time to
time in accordance with the mutations in the sources].
2.-Where appropriate and copyrighted allowed, previous literature on the
subject and work done by others, if usable and as agreed upon with the
parties involved, will be used to expedite the execution of the project.
These sources will be checked for inaccuracies or mistakes before use.
3.-The photographs bear a blind stamp of the logos of the NIK and the
Dutch Jewish Genealogical Data Base (DJGDB) of the Center and copying
them is not allowed.
B.-Mapping of the cemeteries in addition to the above database.
1.-Existing inventories, both those that are already part of the DJGDB
and those that will be added in the future (where agreement for use is
given) will be used for the complementation of the project.
2.-Where no inventories are available, these will completed to the best
of our ability by teams of of the NIK and the DJGDB.
The project requires a lot of manpower on a voluntary basis. If you feel
you have the right expertise and a high motivation to join this new
project of conservation of the Jewish Heritage of the Netherlands-please
