Death of mr. Lazarus Phillips - A well-known and highly respected figure in orthodox circles has disappeared by the death on Tuesday last, of mr. Lazarus Phillips, better known as "Froom Leizer". The deceased, who was in his 88th year, was the so n of a former Dayan of Amsterdam, Rabbi Uri. Mr. Phillips was a devout, piousJew, rigidly orthodox and very observant.He was for many years connected with the Cutler street synagogue. Besides a large familyof children, he leaves many grandchildre n and great-grandchildren. Among the sons are the Rev. P. [Philip] Phillips of Maiden Lane Synagogue, and the Rev. I.[Isaac] Phillips of Portsmouth.
The Rev. E.P.[Eliezer Philip] Phillips of Glasgow, is a grandson. He was buried on Wednesday at the West Ham Cemetery, the service being read by the Rev. A.E. Gordon of the Great Synagogue.
