Sara Salomon Zelig, died 8 Jul 1739 Amsterdam, Muiderberg cemetery: on 13 Tammuz 5499 - widow of Jokeb Bochtel.
Event: event 20 MRT 1725 request to cityhall concerning seats in synagogue of Amsterdam Sara Seligh, widow of Jacob Marcus applies in a formal letter (request) to the city hall of Amsterdam (de schepenen) in connection with the ownership of 3 seats in the great synagogue (2 male, 1 female), belonging to her and her children, bu t of which the acts of ownership (grondbrieven) got lost.
She applied previously with the parnassim with a request to make official announcements in the synagogue concerning these seats as common in such cases, and when nobody would oppose, to supply her with new ownership acts. They indeed execute d on the thereto usual and preserved days these announcements in order to find out if sombody had pretensions on these seats and nobody showed up; however, then the parnassim ordered again a publication of this matter with the demand that anyon e who pretends ownership should come up within 30 days before the president parnas, and that after this they would extend the ownership letters. After implementing this procedure, they however again refused to extend the letters of ownership, wit h the purported argument that the requester together with Heijman Hartogh, the former co-guardian maintains a judicial claim before the city council, and that therefore they could not comply with the requester's demand, without consent and authori sation of the city council. Because of this, this request is humbly put before the noble reverable, begging them to pronounce a statement which induces the parnassim to comply with her demand, and to produce the three requested letters.
The city council does indeed instruct the parnassim to comply with the demand!
