Event: event Jul 1759 membership of community in Amsterdam Salomon Sousman goes in appeal before the mayors of Amsterdam: he, inhabitant of this town, son of rabbi Eleazar Sousman, married to Vogel Jacobs from Leeuwarden, daughter of Jacob Leevij, living in Leeuwarden, although she already lived in Amster dam before her marriage. They were as couple accepted as members of the Ashkenazi community in 1756, and paid all their dues in connection therewith, and enjoyed the rights of membership.
But a couple of months afterwards the beadle of this community appeared at their place sent by the parnassim and denied them of their membership to their utmost surprise.
Salomon & his father showed themselves before the parnassim in order to get informed on what reason this denial was undertaken, and they were then told, that the reason was, that the appealer's wife had given birth within nine months of their marr iage. The appealer and his father then showed the parnassim the injustice thereby carried out to them, and the parnassim contented them utterly by authorising the appealer and wife their rights of membership, without any hindrance.
However, Salomon then wanted to become a member in his father's college Poognale Sedek (Poalei Tsedek) but the parnassim informed the treasurer (of that college), that the suppliant is not a member of the community, and thus cannot be admitte d to the college.
This while the suppliant & his wife are of behaviour of which nothing demeaning whatsoever can be said, and this mistreatment of them by the parnassim has no foundation or reason whatsoever, and thus this treatment is misbehaven and causing prejud ice to the fame & good name of the suppliant & his wife, etc'.
