Else, 92, was a Holocaust survivor with a cheerful outlook on life. Born in Heidelberg, Germany just before the Hyperinflation, she fled Nasi Germany for Holland at the age of 15. After several years hiding from the Nazis in an attic in Holland , she was the first woman to cross an unguarded winter pass in the Pyranees, pushing through 20 feet of snow to safety in spain. She came to the U.S. in 1946 with her husband of 50 years, Kurt. She was among the first returning students in the 196 0's, obtaining her GED, a BA, and a Master's in Library Science from Rutgers University. For many years she was a beloved Librarian at Lyncrest School in Fair Lawn, NJ, transforming the library from a former custodial closet into a pioneering mult imedia center. She was active in the New Jewish Life Club, the Herzl Club, and the Fair Lawn Jewish Center. After retirement she moved to Munster, Indiana, where she lived with her eldest son and his family. She lost two sons, Irwin and Norman, bu t is survived by her eldest son Eugene, his wife Maricar, and her four grandchildren Aaron, Noah, Rachel and Rebecca. She touched many hearts with her kindness and sunny disposition. A graveside service will be 10:30 AM today at Cedar Park Cemeter y, 735 Forest Avenue, Paramus, NJ.
