Roger Rowland Cook, birth 29 May 1905, died 17 Oct 1967
to: Amelia Corper, alias: Milly, Defriend, birth 10 Sep 1907 London, England, died 27 Jun 1999, daughter of John Corper and Rachel Defriend Milly was blind from the age of 18 months until the age of 6 years old. She suffered with ulcers on the cornea of the eye. John her father paid a guinea for Milly to be seen, by a Harley St consultant Sir Anderson Critchett. Milly went into hospit al at Moorefields eye hospital to have the operation carried out, the operation was so successful that Sir Anderson Critchett gave back the guinea to John. Milly remembers Mary Corper nee Waas her grandmother. When she was small she would visit Mary, and Mary would take Milly to the local park which is Victoria Park. Mary was a small lady with grey hair. Rachel and Phoebe Defriend came to visit John Corper when Milly was 14 years old they were sisters. John was married to Rachel, but living with Hannah her other sister. Milly believes John her father and family moved to Grays Pond Reading around 1916-1917. |
