Judel Judah Reisel, birth 1844 Shaki, Lithuania, died 2 Aug 1922 Tiberias, Israel, son of Jakov Zvi Reisel and Leya(?) Kaplan
According to two different ships manifests ("Prinzesse Alice", fromBremen to NY in May 1907 and "Nieuw Amsterdam" from Rotterdam in Sept1917) he spelled his name Judel

He came with his wife Chaje Sorah (a month after his daughter Rebecca(Jeanette Chiona Rivka ))
to the US in 1907 and again in 1917 from Holland, this time alone

I think that in 1907 he visited Wolf his son in Berlin before leavingEurope
and in 1916 when his wife died he left for Holland to be with Wolf again, before going back in 1917.

He told the immigration officer that he had lived in the US in 1907/08.
I never heard that he would have been living without his wife, in Hollandfrom 1908 to 1917
so I assume he was in Holland only a year...

His son Aron came to the US in 1892 according to the 1920 NY census.
Pesche Malke (Later Molly Rosen Finkelstein) came in 1895 when she saidshe was 18. She arrived on the "Obdam".
Rueben came in 1901(17 years) with Rachel, who had a son already 10months old, Yankel Gedalya Kaplan.(Her husband Fischel Kaplan was alreadyin the US.) They arrived with the "Kensington"
to:

My great-grandfather's name was Joseph (Yosef). He was also referred
to as "Yussel Sintofer" -- Yussel from Sintof, a town near Shaki, in
the "province" of "Suwalki Gubernia". He was a businessman,
owned an inn and a grainery.
There was no mention of his wife's name. He was married twice; his
first wife died in childbirth. My assumption is that my grandfather
was probably from the first wife, and perhaps too young to remember
his mother well.

Five came to the U.S. -- my grandfather, Emmanuel, his brothers, Max,
Sam and Harry, and their sister Julia; seven siblings remained in
Lithuania. Emmanuel and Max immediately went to Elmira to their Uncle
Abbie (Abraham?) who was in the dry goods business. He fitted them
out as peddlers and eventually they did well enough to open their own
stores. Apparently Abraham "set everyone up" when they came to the
U.S.

My mother Cecile, mentioned that her cousin, Betty Barr, who lives inBrooklyn,
gave her a lot of the information on the Finkelsteins in Lithuania. Betty
(and her sisters, Lina and Ella) grew up in Lithuania. She came to the
U.S. after the holocaust (she and her sisters survived the death camps;
their husbands & children did not). She remarried here (Morton
Barr). I believe she is in her late 80's. Her phone number in Brooklynis
718-851-8427. I doubt if she's internet savvy! But, you never know.
