Alexander van Dijk
Some inforrmation has been supplied by Mr.Ze'ev Bar in Amsterdam.
But Aart and Riet de Leeuw van Weenen completed an extenisve research of the family. and they found that Izaak Sanders established himself in Alem, Maren and Kessel about 1750. He seemed to have lived in a little house on the dyke (levy), an d is may be surmised that he therefore registered his family name as Van Dijk.
(could it be that Sanders means Sander's son? [opinion J.Vomberg])
Another family of the same name started in Gorredijk who have not be found (yet) to be related. The same seems to be the case with a van Dijk family from Batenburg and Tiel, whose oldest person found so far was Levie van Dijk born 1772 in Heiligers tad near Kassel.
Througout the statistics it is noted that often children were born before the recorded civil date of marriage. Civil marriage was not legislated untill the Napoleon laws became effective in 1811 in Holland, and therefore a chupa preceded the civi l marriage of record sometimes by considerable time. In 1796 laws were passed in Holland to forbid religious discrimination
A booklet 'het smouse kerkhof in Geffen' was the source of a lot of information about that area, and contgains quite some interesting stories (thanks to Mr. Fred Wijburg).
