Leon Vomberg, birth 29 OKT 1880 Deventer, died 1963 Amsterdam, son of Joseph Vomberg and Rosetta Kats He was a teacher in Rijssen and moved to a position as a French highschool teacher at the 2nd O.H.S (a school specializing in business subjects) in Amsterdam. He also was a tranlator. The family first was able to receive a 'Barneveld' certificate, which greatly delayed their deportation. Towards the end of the war they were in Terezin (Theresienstadt). Towards the end of the war the children were exchanged with a group of inma tes via Switzerland to Palestine in exchange for trucks. They lived in Amsterdam, Fred.Hendrikplantsoen 91 and E.de Wolffstraat 6: 438 Sochnut Holland, sent 24/12/43 by lettermail 2426/381/7/989 to alya mandate government, received there M/438/43 and transfered 30/12/43 to government secretariat. Transfered on 24/12/43 by Sochnut to representative in Co nstantinople, and on 4/1/44 to London by 'airgraph'. the certificate was sent by wire on 26/12/43 to the Red Cross in Geneva. Married 4 Aug 1909 Rotterdam to: Eva Johanna van Dijk, birth 21 Dec 1886 Rotterdam, died 1976 Amsterdam, daughter of Manus van Dijk and Mientjen Katz Witnesses at marriage: her uncle Samuel van Dijk, salesman, 57 yrs old; Benjamin Frankfort her brother-in-law living in Deventer; Philip Benjamin van Dijk, brother of the wife, spouse and uncle Alexander Hecht, 34 yrs old. |

2) Mientjen Vomberg, birth 29 Sep 1912 Amsterdam, died 14 Feb 1998 Herzlia, buried Kfar Monash She was an employee of the Amsterdam board of education. to: Max (Nimrod) Vlessing, birth 30 Apr 1915 Leeuwarden, died 3 Nov 1999 Herzlia The famiiy returned to Amsterdam in 1946 amd returned again to Israel in December 1950 (?), where they lived in Kfar Monash. |
