'on 26 Sep 1793 Moses Rodrigues, medical doctor and Immanuel Saul Simons made up a contract, in which the first person takes it upon him to instruct Sara, sister of the second person, in midwifery.
Agreed is to pay the doctor fl. 150, half prior to instruction, half after passing the examination.
However, on 17 Oct 1793 Sara, now a deserted wife, is registered as pupil of the midwife Trijntje Hendriks. Sara requests on 18 Aug 1796 to be examined, in order to assist her needy instructor with her own earnings. This is not allowed.
On 20 Oct 1796 the midwife Hendrika Boekhout appears before the Collegium to ask if Sara may be incribed as her pupil. The decision is, that first a discharge from teacher Trijntje Hendriks should be produced. On 3 Nov 1796 Hendrika appears again , now with a teaching contract for the duration of the 3 years teaching period still due, in which contract it is agreed upon, that Sara will pay fl. 50,- immediately and fl. 50,- at the end of the contract period. On 17 Nov 1796 a small piec e of paper was introduced at the Collegium with the text: 'I, undersigned, give up [my connection] in trueness and in full understanding and free will, with my pupil , although I would like to keep her; but I am so old and cripple and also so poor , that I can't cross the streets, as I am all the time sick, Trijntje Hendriks, midwife'. Following this, Sara was registered as pupil to Hendrika. She passed her exam and was admitted on 12 Jan 1799. On 28 Sep 1818, she received from the Commissi on an attest of good behaviour in the fulfillment of her vocation. With this attest in hand, she feft Amsterdam, unknown whereto.
