Joseph Lion, birth 01 Dec 1875 Viersen Germany, died 29 Oct 1944 Auschwitz
Married 23 Mar 1906 Wurm, Germany to:
Henriette Herz, birth 15 Jun 1881 Wurm, Germany, died 29 Oct 1944 Auschwitz
After making several inquiries I was informed that the town of Wurm is now part of Geilenkirchen.
Dochter van Salomon Herz & Amalia Michel
1) Henriette Lion, alias: Hedwig Lion, birth 15 Feb 1902 Wurm , Germany, died 03 May 1942 Krasniczyn Ghetto
There is a question regarding Hedwig's name. According to a photocopy in a German language document her name is indicated
as Henriette. Like her mother. She was called Hede, a short for Hedwig to avoid confusion. Also the marriage of her parents, Joseph and Henriette Lion took officially place on March 23, 1906, while Henriette was born in1902. Most probably in thos e days only a Chuppah had taken place years before, and the edict for civil marriage came down later.

De " List of murdered Jews from Germany found in List of Jewish victims from the Memorial book
"Victims of the Persecution of Jews under the National Socialist Tyranny in Germany 1933 - 1945" prepared by the German Federal Archives.'

, son of Willem Heiman David Zilversmit and Sophie Polak
Karl andHenriette's addresses in Leer were:

1st Rathausstrasse 72
2nd Am Pulverturm 25 which is where Gus and his brother Walter grew up.

Karl and Hede went by the name Silberschmidt. Very unofficially.Eventually also signed papers
this way, which got him into big trouble with the Nazi's for falsifyingdocuments. It seemed that
it never occured to any one that one just couldn't do that.
